📢 PSA: US Cell Phones to Receive "Presidential" Alert Today at 2:18 p.m. ET!
Don't be alarmed if your cell phone and those around you send out an unexpected alert this afternoon. FEMA and the FCC are conducting a test of the "Presidential-level" Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system.
🚨 What to expect:
- • A message reading: "Presidential Alert - THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."
- • It's not a warning about real-world events; it's just a test.
- • The alert might resemble the familiar severe weather or Amber alerts.
📱 Important Details:
- • Approximately 100 WEA carriers, including all major providers, will send the alert.
- • However, only an estimated 75% of US cell phones may receive it.
- • Your phone needs to be on and near an active cell tower during the test.
- • Phones in active calls or data sessions might not receive the alert.
- • The alert will only be broadcast for about 30 minutes.
